Every now and then I experience dryness in prayer. Who doesn’t? Ha! Even Mother Teresa experienced dryness, emptiness and even doubt in prayer and in the presence of Jesus in her life. But one’s faithfulness to prayer even in the midst of these difficulties is the most important thing. Like the fire that needs kindling and covering, we, too, need kindling and covering in our prayer life, even in our daily life experiences. We also have the responsibility to keep the fire burning within us. God will not leave us in our moments of dryness and emptiness. He gave many instruments to prayer that we may be able to communicate with him in many possible ways
And so today, I share with you one of the prayers composed during the kindling of fire in Ireland. Let this be your morning prayer as you start your day:
I pray that the flame of God’s love may burn in my heart,
and the hearts of all I meet today.
I pray that no envy and malice,
no hatred or fear, may smother the flame.
I pray that indifference and apathy,
contempt and pride, may not pour like cold water on the fire.
Instead, may the spark of God’s love
light the love in my heart, that it may burn brightly through the day.
as Christ preserve us all.
Lord, may its warmth remain in our midst,
as Christ is always among us.
Lord, may it rise to life in the morning,
as we shall rise with Christ to eternal life.
That's why I try my best to utter words of ACTS whenever possible...
I know our God is not a God who keeps a tab on how many times we've prayed.
What I am very sure of is that whenever we pray He looks into our hearts, He listens to what is really there... I think that's the important thing - our disposition when we pray, what is our heart seeking and looking for...
I am may still be searching and wandering but I know at the end of my search God is there waiting for me... like the father of the prodigal son :)
Yan ang sabi ni Manang!
